Too many books spoil the broth

That's the headline from this article in The Scotsman.
MRS Beeton would have laughed. The magazine journalist who never ran a great household, stole most of her recipes and was dead by the age of 29, understood very well that cookery books sell reassurance and inspiration, not recipes. So this week's revelation that 35 is the average number of recipes which will be attempted in any British household would not have surprised her in the least. ...
According to the survey, conducted for the TV programme Food Uncut, Britons now own 171 million cookbooks, most of them rarely, if ever, consulted.
